Review of Las Damas 44th Sunset Beach Art Festival
This past weekend I had a booth at the Las Damas 44th annual Sunset Beach Arts and Crafts Festival held on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was overcast, but after the morning fog lifted on Sunday, the weather was sunny and beautiful. The venue is lovely, and the festival is nestled under trees in the parkway between the beach and hip beach houses.
Being Mother's Day weekend, I was hopeful that the show would be a success. Many of the show goers were mostly interested in low priced items. The booth next to me, selling mainly $5 and $10 feather earrings and hair pieces, was doing a brisk business.
This was my first time doing this show, and I was frankly, disappointed both in the amount of my sales and the quality of the items being sold by other venders. More than a few of the booths were selling items ($1 to $3) that belonged at a flea market. The show was expanded this year and that may have been part of the reason for my lower than average sales. There were some artists who said that this show was good for them but the majority said this show was down by 50%.

Carlsbad Village Street Faire Review
I was loving reminded today that when I am in gratitude, I am not in self pity…That is where I aspire to be…With that said, on with the show…
This is my 4th year doing the Carlsbad Village Street Faire, which is held twice a year, the first Sunday in May and the first Sunday in November. This show is not a juried show and consequently, brings in all sorts of vendors, many selling imports. In the past, this was my busiest show of the year, but this time it took a major hit for me, and most of the vendors I talked to. If it were not for my returning patrons, my sales really would have been down
One of the artisans blamed the disappointing sales on high gas costs. I know one thing for sure; there were certainly enough people walking around and the weather was beautiful.
To add insult to injury, two of my most expensive designs, a sold silver hammered ring and a solid silver hammered cuff were stolen. With the price of silver soaring to almost $50 an once, you can only imagine how upsetting this was. I can only hope the November show is back on track with great sales and no theft.

Have a great weekend,

Review of Down Town Burbank Arts Festival
Greetings,
One of the joys I find in participating in different shows is the camaraderie with fellow artists. There appears to be an unspoken understanding of the difficulty it takes to make a living from your art. My neighbors in Burbank were extremely supportive, and we all helped each other in watching one another’s booths, exchanging show and marketing information, and even sharing life experiences.
Now, on with the show – West Coast Artists put on this Downtown Burbank Fine Arts Festival on April 16th and 17th. There were various artists displaying their works, including water and oil paintings, wood working, ceramics, blown glass, handmade note cards, photography, mixed media art, and jewelry, of course.
Saturday was a little on the warm side, but Sunday was perfect. Reported sales from the artists surrounding me were low for Saturday and even lower for Sunday. If you are a patron looking for a nice show, this is a must see. Parking is free and plentiful, there are nice restaurants nearby, and you can come out and support local artists. Remember, without you, there will be no show. If you are a LOCAL artist, it is worth a try as there are many artists who keep coming back.

La Quinta - Art Under The Umbrellas
Greetings,
On my April 9th ride from Culver City to the La Quinta Art Under The Umbrellas show, I passed by a rather surprising site just west of Beaumont. There was snow everywhere. Not just on the mountain but on the road, on the houses, on the trees, and on the freeway signs. It was a beautiful sight - to see snow on tall palm trees. Unfortunately, I forgot my camera - Shame on me!!
Once in Old Town La Quinta, it was a lovely day - weather in the 70's, blue skies and no wind. Several patrons had mentioned that the wind the day before had been just terrible, even blowing trees down. But today was just perfect. Once again, great art buying customers, good promoters, and classy, lively music.
This was last show of the year in La Quinta. Be sure to mark your dates for next season's show as this show is a winner.
Until next week, here's looking at you and I hope you're looking at me.........Naomi

Woodland Hills Rotary
I truly want all promoters and quality artisans to succeed at what they do as the arts and crafts shows are one of the very few venues left where U.S. artists join together and sell their creations. To me, this is all apart of keeping American art and culture alive.
My last show was the Woodland Hills Årts and Crafts Show put on by the Rotary Club of Woodland Hills. The location of the show was moved from Warren Park to the Westfield parking lot. Parking was plentiful and loading in and out for the artists was easy as we could pull right up to our booth space and set up. The Rotary also provided (as always) coffee, pastries, bagels, and fruit for both Sat. and Sun.
Unfortunately, there was not a sign at Warren Park redirecting the devoted show goers to the new location. Many patrons stumbled upon it by accident. There were signs posted by the show but outside of this, I’m not sure how much advertisement was done.
All the customers I talked to felt that the show had quality merchandise for sale even though a few thought there was a little “junk”. I spoke to 5 other artisans, a painter, a knitter, and three other jewelers, who were disappointed in their sales. Most felt it was a sign of the economy.

La Quinta - Art Under The Umbrellas
On Line Shop: http://www.jewelrybynaomi.etsy.com
Facebook: jewelrybynaomi
Greetings from beautiful Culver City, CA,
As opposed to last week's rained-drenched, disastrous Wisteria Festival in Sierra Madre, this Saturday's art festival held in Old Town La Quinta was a rousing success. Because of the customers, the show's promoters, and charming Old Town itself, Art Under the Umbrellas is one of my favorite shows. The artists display their wares under colorful umbrellas on streets lined with palm trees and adobe Spanish style buildings that house an array of fashionable shops, an art studio, and terrific restaurants.
The cliental is composed mainly of snowbirds, many Canadians from British Columbia and other visitors from the Pacific Northwest and the Midwest. The music is smooth and classy, and there is a wide range of talented artists selling glass, oil and water paintings, bronze sculpture, ceramics, mixed media, and jewelry, of course. There is one more show in April; so if you are in the area, stop by. You won't be disappointed. You can visit the website at -

Review of Brea Spring Craft Boutique & Wistaria Festival
The city of Brea held its 13th annual Spring Craft Boutique at the Brea community center. This show is truly a craft show with a country sort of feel, featuring around 270 vendors, selling clothes, stationary, children’s toys, knitting, holiday decorations, flower arrangements, purses, lotions, candles, woodworking, food, and, of course, jewelry…
This was my first time doing this show, and it appears that it has a good following. Most of the crafters I talked to were old-timers at the show. They did say it was very slow this year but they plan on coming back as it has been a good show for them – promising-.

Hillcrest Festival Of Fine Arts - Feb. 25th - 27th
This sweet little show took place in La Habra Heights at the Hillcrest Congregational Church. The quality of art was exceptional and the artist and volunteers were very friendly and helpful. The show is a must see as it is small enough to see all the art and there is a wonderful starving artists cafe with homemade food. In addition, there is live music performances throughout the day, which I enjoyed very much.
Until next time-----
Naomi
